Willow Coppice Planted

Willow Coppice Planted

Woo hoo! We have finished planting all of the Willows. In total there were 198!

In theory this means we should (in 5 years!) have our first seasoned wood to burn. Who knows, by then we might even have a wood burner or two to burn it in :)

Plant a tree – set a new world record. It must be Tree O’Clock!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Do you want to be in the Guinness Book of World Records? Do you want to help improve the planet? Can you plant a tree somewhere? Then it must be Tree O’Clock!

To support and promote national tree week support a world record attempt to plant the most trees in one hour. You can find out all about it here on the BBC website.

We are going to pledge to plant one tree during the designated time slot, can you also support it? If you want some help in choosing the right tree for your garden drop us a comment and we’ll try and help you. (Or at least we have some great books to help us help you!)

Trees, Glorious Trees!

Friday, May 15th, 2009

We’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating – we love trees :)   and a month ago we planted 25 new trees in our back garden! They have become our new ‘babies’ as they currently need a lot of attention (have to be watered every day it doesn’t rain for the first year!) but it’s great to have something to nurture! From the house most look more like twigs at the moment, but in a few years time they should look fantastic! We have quite a variety and they have all been planted as per our garden design so we have lots of different leaf colours, flowers, berries, shapes, bark etc. This is only about half the trees planned for the garden but this was all we could afford at the moment – we will wait until next season to plant some more. From Little Acorns to Self-Sown Oak Trees!

Baby Oak TreeThis might sound sad but I am really excited and thrilled to be the owner of some trees! What is great is that we have found a lot of self-sown oak trees in the bottom paddock. We need to get the paddock topped before we can get the mower, or the kids, on it as it is very deep, thick grass which makes walking on it rather treacherous. However, before we top it we shall definitely be transplanting some of these baby oaks for other parts of the garden. Just in case any of our friends or site visitors want one please let us know.
