Gluttons for punishment and pushing ahead with our jobs for this year, the plasterers, Mortimer and Smith are back! We tried to be clever in the family bathroom and install some fire rated 12v downlighters in our existing bathroom ceiling. Unfortunately we wasted half a day of electrician’s money only to be told it could not be done. We therefore had no choice, we had to either rip the old ceiling down or overboard. Believe me, it was not a hard decision.

The Plasterers Are Back!

This post is by way of a BIG thank you to Adrian Mortimer and Paul Smith of Mortimer and Smith Plastering Contractors!
Adrian and Paul have blown me away by the speed and quality of their work. They have also been prepared to go-the-extra-mile to ensure that the end result is better than we could have expected! They have finished all the work(and more!) to the agreed price and within the time frame.
To the left is a picture of Adrian Mortimer looking longingly
at one of our walls he is in the process of top coating or pinking. (Actually I think he is posing!!)
Wallpaper Removal Challenges
Sunday, August 24th, 2008
This week we have been mostly removing wallpaper! So far we’ve done the entrance hall, corridor and snug, and each area has thrown up some surprises for us! The kids have joined in and really enjoyed scraping (and peeling!) the wallpaper off. This photo shows the entrance hall. There were at least 2 layers of wallpaper in this room, and on the wall in the photo, all the different colours you can see are the various layers of paint under the wallpaper! Some of the plaster is sound whilst some just totally came away on the back of the wallpaper – yikes! In one corner, where we know there had been a recent leak, a lot of plaster came down and there are now sizeable holes near the ceiling! I have to say that when the plaster also comes off, the wallpaper is really easy to remove – always try and find the silver lining has become our motto this week
