Newts Shock! Oh Triturus Vulgaris!

Common Smooth Newt Close UpWell I got a bit of a shock the other evening! There I was lifting more of the pamment tiles when all of a sudden just where I was lifting I spotted what I thought was an old plastic toy animal. However, it was not there a second before. So I lifted it up only to find it was not plastic but real. My next assumption was that it was well and truly dead – then in blinked at me and I nearly dropped it in shock!

Matt Cooper Steps into Help Remove Pamments!

Matt Cooper - Pamment Helper!Wanted to post a quick acknowledgement to my good friend Matt Cooper for his help lifting some more pamment tiles last night. It really is pretty tough and dirty work, but as I offered him a pint afterwards at the local I managed to persuade him!

Of course Matt managed to lift a few more than me, but then I said he had the easy bit ;) !

Turning into a Building Site …

We knew it would happen sooner or later, but Waterloo Farm really is turning from a house that was lived in until quite recently, into a building site! It’s amazing how quickly the transformation has taken place really, and that’s without any official building works yet! Why the new ‘building site’ status? I hear you ask. Well, most of the ground floor carpets have been removed now in preparation for digging up all the floors for the underfloor heating (UFH) installation, and carpets, however dirty, certainly help to make a place feel more like a home. The Snug Gets Sorted!!

Pamment Tiles LiftedOne of my jobs over the last weekend (apart from spending hours cutting the grass ;) ) was to take up the carpet in the snug. It was already loose as it had been peeled back in order to dig the exploratory hole and fortunately came up pretty easily, along with the underlay. It was a bit of a job getting the gripper rods up as they had been well and truly hammered into the concrete floor, but once I’d finished and swept up a little (not much point doing too much as the floor will get ripped up entirely in the not-too-distant-future!), it all felt much cleaner somehow! Pretty silly thing to say about a room with a huge hole in the floor, bare clay walls (with some mould in places) and a grotty fireplace! (more…)
