Candlelit Bath

Candlelit Bath

What could be more romantic, a bath by candle light to soothe the stresses of the day away… I wish! No, the candles in our bathroom are actually the lights in our bathroom because we had the ceiling over-boarded and re-plastered, and now we don’t actually have any … errmm … electric lights in our bathroom!!

At first the kids thought it was a great novelty, now they just accept it. Looking forward to the clocks going forward :)

Now we just need to find an electrician to fit the new 12v down lighters.

The First 3 Months – What Have We Achieved???

Monday, November 17th, 2008

This post is really for my own benefit as much as a blog update because lately I have been wondering just what we’ve spent the last 3 months since we bought Waterloo Farm doing! Some days it feels like we’ve achieved very little because the actual building work still hasn’t started, so I thought that writing it down might help me realise just how much we have achieved in a relatively short space of time (considering we don’t actually live there yet!). So, here’s a list of the things I can remember – no doubt Nigel will remember some more so we’ll add to the list (thanks to everyone who has helped us get this lot done :) )! (more…)

Meter and Consumer UnitTo move or not to move that is the question. No, not us, but our electricity meter and consumer unit!

At the moment the rather unattractive pair are causing us a problem in terms of taking walls down, as one is sitting firmly on a wall that we hoped would not be there in the future.

Building Survey – Anglia Land Surveys

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Very excited today as we had Anglia Land Surveys round to ‘measure up’ and produce a Measured Plan of Waterloo Farm. These plans will essentially be the building blocks of how we move forward on changing the internal spaces to make the building a little more family friendly and suit our lifestyle.

Wallpaper Removal Challenges

Wallpaper Removal Entrance HallThis week we have been mostly removing wallpaper! So far we’ve done the entrance hall, corridor and snug, and each area has thrown up some surprises for us! The kids have joined in and really enjoyed scraping (and peeling!) the wallpaper off. This photo shows the entrance hall. There were at least 2 layers of wallpaper in this room, and on the wall in the photo, all the different colours you can see are the various layers of paint under the wallpaper! Some of the plaster is sound whilst some just totally came away on the back of the wallpaper – yikes! In one corner, where we know there had been a recent leak, a lot of plaster came down and there are now sizeable holes near the ceiling! I have to say that when the plaster also comes off, the wallpaper is really easy to remove – always try and find the silver lining has become our motto this week :)
