Underfloor Heating (UFH) Manifold Installed

Underfloor Heating (UFH) ManifoldJust a quick post to say the underfloor heating manifold has been installed and the pipes are now under pressure ready for the floor screed to go down on Thursday!!

It feels like we are moving forward a bit quicker now. The reasons the pipes are put under pressure is to make sure that in the very unlikely scenario the pipes are nicked when the floor is being screed, the pressure will drop and water will shoot out!

Underfloor Heating Pipes Installed in Family RoomA great day today was seeing the underfloor heating (UFH) pipes installed and laid onto the Celotex. We went for a aluminium core UFH pipe (Multi layer composite Pert-Alu-Pert WRAS approved) to provide additional strength than just the Pert only pipes. In fact we opted for Wundapipe!

It has been fixed to the floor using a combination of staples and tracks to help achieve the desired spacing to provide the right amount of heat output.

Building Works: Days…lost count – Celotex Take 2!

CelotexCelotex – Take 2! Had a very strange feeling of de ja vu this weekend when finally the Celotex (thick insulation that goes on top of the concrete pad and has the under floor heating pipes fixed to) went down – again!

It was a bitter sweet moment. Sweet that it was a relief to get The Farm cleared and the piles laid out on the floor. Bitter – that we ended up having to pay for the work twice.

However, it is in and down and I must say makes the place look very bright and dare I say even clean?

So…does this brighter interior mean we are heading for brighter times at The Farm??!! We all hope so!

Adrian Mortimer from Mortimer & Smith Plastering Contractors in NorfolkThis post is by way of a BIG thank you to Adrian Mortimer and Paul Smith of Mortimer and Smith Plastering Contractors!

Adrian and Paul have blown me away by the speed and quality of their work. They have also been prepared to go-the-extra-mile to ensure that the end result is better than we could have expected! They have finished all the work(and more!) to the agreed price and within the time frame.

To the left is a picture of Adrian Mortimer looking longingly :) at one of our walls he is in the process of top coating or pinking. (Actually I think he is posing!!) ;)

The Steels Are In … At Last!!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Having been persuaded by our previous builders that we needed to order the steels right at the start of the project in December (then had to pay for them to be painted to stop them from rusting!), they are finally in place and looking great! There are 2 which sit at right angles to one another and kind of get webbed together. The first is internal and holds up the ceiling where there was once a dividing wall. The second is a replacement lintel below which will eventually be a four metre opening for a folding-sliding window/door affair. In order to put this one in the whole of the back of the house needed to be propped up so it didn’t collapse into the hole – quite scary to see one’s house held up by scaffolding with a huge hole underneath, but our builders Trevor and Bob (our very own Bob the Builder :) ) have done a fantastic job with it and we can now get the sense of how wide the big windows/doors will be.
