About Waterloo Farm
Waterloo Farm, we are pleased to say, is the home of our Hannant Family! We understand it is approximately 200 years old, and started off life as two farm cottages. At some time it was knocked into one farmhouse, and over the course of time has had numerous extensions. It is based in South Norfolk in the UK.
The farmhouse sits at the front of the plot that extends to 5.5 acres, currently comprising of a formal garden and 2 paddocks.
Once upon a time it was part of a ‘Freehold Residential Agricultural & Sporting Estate’ known as the ‘Morley Hall Estate’. This estate covered over 900 acres! The estate was broken up and sold off shortly after the Second World War. Waterloo Farm was sold off as part of ‘Lot 5′ on Sunday, June 23rd 1945 and along with other various cottages and farms came with over 295 acres.
We are not sure where the name comes from, as on maps prior to 1939 it was called Waterlow Farm. We had surmised with the previous owner that it was named as a result of the famous battle, but the Waterlow name does cast some suspicion on this theory.
The old parts of the house, which are relatively small, are constructed of clay lump, a typical building material for houses built in Norfolk. This coupled with some remaining pantiles on the floor really adds to the overall charm.
Since 1945 most of ‘Lot 5′ has now been split up further and sold off , but we are really pleased to still retain an old stable block. It needs quite a bit of TLC, but we hope to retain it for use if we can.
We hope to try and discover as much about the property as we can and will update this page as we discover more about it.
