This took place in the summer, but only just got round to blogging about it as we have been busy, busy! For some of you following the blog you will know that traditionally the parking for Waterloo Farm has been at the back of the property using a turning circle.
We are keen to provide parking at the front, and reserve the back just for garden. This would also provide us the ability to secure the back of the property and encourgae visitors to use the front door – something we are keen to do as following the renovation work we now have a welcoming and spacious entrance hall!
Once again we called on Liam Lambert, from Lambert’s Civil Engineering, to provide the vehicular muscle, yet this time I was allowed loose on the big boys toys and was responsible for driving the 10 ton Dumper truck! It is very strange how quickly you become accustomed to seeing huge plant machinery ‘digging up’ your garden. But it makes for VERY quick changes and some deep breaths when you see it all going on.
The photographs basically tell the story, but in essence we wanted to create two new ‘visitor’ parking bays, and a new bed to provide the Farm with some much needed kerb appeal. The rather ugly fence, past-it Laurel and piles of sand and weeds all had to go!
To this end we scraped the top soil from around the Cherry Tree, and used this as top soil for the new bed. We then used the gravel and hoggin from the turning circle from the back as the hard core for the new parking bays. This nifty recycling saved us a fortune in having to pay for the removal of the top soil, and also in hard core for the parking.
The drive was finally finished with a ‘wrap’ made up of recycled roads which was rolled and whacked into place with a mini-roller. It was so violent we feared for the Farm as everyitem in the cupboards rattled and clinked.
The last thing was to splash a coat of blue on the fence and side of the storage unit used by our neighbour.
This was only part 1, the next was to sort out the gravel turning circle, and the parking bay to the side of the garage, but that is for another post.
