We knew it would happen sooner or later, but Waterloo Farm really is turning from a house that was lived in until quite recently, into a building site! It’s amazing how quickly the transformation has taken place really, and that’s without any official building works yet! Why the new ‘building site’ status? I hear you ask. Well, most of the ground floor carpets have been removed now in preparation for digging up all the floors for the underfloor heating (UFH) installation, and carpets, however dirty, certainly help to make a place feel more like a home. What else …
There is a large hole in the snug (wh
ich has been there a while), the suspended floor in the lounge has all been removed and so we just have bare earth there too! All the floorboards and (rotten!) floor joists are now stacked in the stable awaiting their fate (probably the wood burner monster!). Strange to think that just over a week ago we slept there for our anniversary adventure, and now it’s just earth!
Nigel has also been taking the pamment tiles up in the entrance hall so there is now a gaping hole there too (he will be writing a separate post about that). We have taken down many of the internal doors either because they are in the way or in walls that are coming down. It’s rapidly getting to the point where we won’t be able to take the kids there safely anymore at the weekends which is a real shame because a) there’s still lots to do, and b) they love being there and joining in the destruction! Big son begs us to go there so he can dig the floors up – not something one normally allows their children to do, which is why he’s enjoying it quite so much
