I hate wallpaper – it’s official!! OK, maybe that’s a little unfair … it’s not wallpaper I hate, it’s stripping wallpaper that really makes me mad! Lately I’ve been finishing off the stripping in one of the bedrooms and also the stairwell with mixed fortunes in both. In the bedroom, some of the wallpaper came off fairly easily whilst other areas took ages with a steamer. Much of the plaster is blown in there, and there is a huge chunk of wall where there is no plaster left as I took it down because it was so loose! I will take a photo of the offending wall so you can see, but basically you can now see the clay lump ‘bricks’ as any original clay plaster that would have been covering them also came off! It’s a bit scary, but we’re having to get a lot of re-plastering done, so it will get ‘fixed’ eventually!
I still have to finish off in the bedroom, mostly around the window (bit fiddly) and also in the wardrobes where there is some lovely flowery wallpaper!! Now the stairs have also turned out to be a bit of a nightmare! Forget the fact that I haven’t been able to reach right to the top yet for lack of suitable ladders, that’s the least of my problems, since the wallpaper has been WELDED onto the walls 
. Ok, a bit of an exaggeration but let me explain! Actually much of the wallpaper just peeled away and we had fun ripping it off, at least the bits we could reach! However, at some stage in the past, someone had painted a dark green gloss strip, following the line of the stairs (like under a dado rail if you get my drift) about 50cm wide and then wallpapered on top of that at a later stage. Well the gloss paint has acted like super glue, and the wallpaper over the strip has proved incredibly difficult to remove and the steamer has been working overtime, and my poor little arms have been aching! It’s still not finished but I can’t face anymore at the moment. I keep telling myself it’ll all be worth it in the end, although it does feel like the tiniest drop in a vast, vast ocean at the moment …
