Well it had to be done, being such a romantic as I am! It was our 15 year wedding anniversary on the 3rd October, and being a little strapped for cash the plan of a weekend away had been put on hold for a while. However, still wanting to do something different and be remembered, I suggested we spend the night at Waterloo Farm with a take-away! After a little persuading Tammy agreed.
Gratefully the in-Laws had the kids and we were on! Hmmm…maybe I had not fully thought this through, there was no heating, and as it turned out it was a very cold night -2!! The open fire did provide some warmth, but unfortunately seemed to produce more smoke than heat.
However, it certainly will be remembered: the way the lounge curtains slowly fell down and broke every clip on their way when we tried to close them for the first time, had us in hysterical laughter; the stars amazingly bright due to no street lights in the village and surrounding area and of course the company of my lovely wife!

I would just like to add a couple of comments to Nigel’s post about out ‘anniversary adventure’. Firstly, I took my alarm clock which has a built-in thermometer and it never got above 15 degrees C (down to 14 at one point!) and that was inside with the fire lit so just goes to show it was pretty cold (and how inefficient open fires are!!). However, I did enjoy our little camp-out depsite the lack of curtains, having to sleep fully clothed, and absolutely stinking of smoke! I’m glad we did it because we won’t get another chance because next year there will be full-functioning underfloor heating in that room … I hope …
