Sometime ago we named a male pheasant who appeared to be very friendly ‘Fezziwig’ (The name of Dicken’s Scrooge first boss). Fezziwig has now shown a remarkable behaviour, whenever we sit down for dinner (tea) he appears on the patio looking for food!
Now you might think that is not that clever as we must surely sit down at the same time every night. But that is not true. We can be later or early by an hour and he still appears. We have drawn the following conclusions why:
- He hears us calling for the kids that it is time to get up the table
- He can smell the cooked food
- He hears the table being laid
- He is actually a human being changed to a pheasant by a wicked farmer…ok, maybe this one is a little tenuous!
Whatever the reason, it is rather funny. It’s like having an extra kid for dinner! The only thing, with him being this tame he might not do too well in the next few weeks when the shooting season starts! Maybe October 1st when the Pheasent shooting season starts he will naturally learn to keep his head down.
We all hope so as he is rather a hoot and even roosts in the tree next to the stable which he always make such a meal of getting into.
