The Snug Gets Sorted!!

Pamment Tiles LiftedOne of my jobs over the last weekend (apart from spending hours cutting the grass ;) ) was to take up the carpet in the snug. It was already loose as it had been peeled back in order to dig the exploratory hole and fortunately came up pretty easily, along with the underlay. It was a bit of a job getting the gripper rods up as they had been well and truly hammered into the concrete floor, but once I’d finished and swept up a little (not much point doing too much as the floor will get ripped up entirely in the not-too-distant-future!), it all felt much cleaner somehow! Pretty silly thing to say about a room with a huge hole in the floor, bare clay walls (with some mould in places) and a grotty fireplace!

Talking of fireplaces, one of the other things I did was to take up some of the pamment tiles to save them from being utterly destroyed when they take the floor up and so that (hopefully) we can re-use them elsewhere. The fireplace will not be used in this room as it will become the study – we will knock the front off it (the brick part in the photo) and then brick it up, and eventually open it up in the neighbouring room which will become the lounge and have a wood burner in there. I really enjoyed chiseling the pamments out – they did come out fairly easily and, better still, in one piece! Not sure if they are original (need some more research) but they are certainly big! They measure around 25cm x 25cm and are about 5 cm thick, so pretty chunky! Hopefully they’ll clean up nicely and we can use them again.
