I did actually manange to find a few moments to relax at the weekend as well, and enjoy the sun along with this lovely dragon fly. I am no expert, but I think this is a Common Darter, possibly an immature male, Sympetrum striolatum. I am often accused of darting around as well, so maybe we have something in common.
My thanks to the British Dragon Fly Society website for helping me identify it. There are loads of them about at the moment, I think helped by the various swampy puddles and small ponds around. They are brilliant to see pinging around the garden and I hope to identify and photograph every species I can find if possible. It’s just as well this is a life-time project!
