Discovering Buried Treasure (well old 1p coins!!)

Old CoinsWe struck treasure! Well, an old forgotten hoard of old 1p coins! Biggest son and I braved the stable for the first time last Sunday, and whilst clearing out tons of junk, there was suddenly a loud tinkling of coins and some old rotten money bags split and tipped their contents onto the floor. Not joking, but there really are hundreds of them! We all got very excited until we realised they are probably worthless…however…

…it was great fun discovering them and very exciting and rewarding work. It also felt like a very ‘manly’ thing to be doing, and some great ‘father/son bonding’ took place as we took it in turns to shovel junk and grime into bags and push the wheel barrow to the garage.

There were some other great discoveries like old tennis post holders (I thought they were bits off aLeft Stable plough until Tammy managed to read the rusted writing on the iron work), and also some great tools. Even found an old war-time tin hat!

The stable was in much better condition that I was expecting, with the roof having felt under the tiles and only a couple of holes letting in water. The problem is the right side stable which is pretty cream crackered! It is not possible to even get through the door due to the junk in that one, and it is this that I shall be tackling this weekend! ‘I’m going in…’! ;)
