New (Recycled) Stable Doors!

stable_roof_clearedOur outbuilding is an old stable with tack room and as such has some very old stable doors on it; well, mostly falling off it to be more accurate! Anyway, I ‘commissioned’ my dad (Rick) to make us some new ones, but only out of old wood, whatever he could find around the place that had been left over from all the renovation work.

stable-doorsWell, I have to say that dad did us proud and made two new doors entirely out of recycled wood! He used wood that had originally been in the house so the doors are now made up of the old staircase, the old pantry shelves and some old floorboards – how fantastic is that? The ultimate recycling, not to mention the slightly warm feeling that we have somehow preserved something of the old fabric of the house! Dad used the original hinges but we need to get some new bolts and padlocks for them so we can then use stable a little more securely than currently! I am going to paint them blue just because we have some leftover blue garden paint (!) and will then paint the hinges and other metal work black so hopefully they’ll look even better when they’re completely finished! Thanks for doing such a great job dad :) stable-doors-close
