It just had to go – and fortunately everyone agreed, including the previous owner Mr P. Today saw the the Weeping Silver Birch receive a radical new look, prior to being fully removed when we can work out how!
Despite it not being ‘that big’ it turned out to be a bit of a handful, considering I had 3 kids under 8 to help me and just a bow saw! I really must get myself booked onto a ‘how to use a chain saw safely’ course as this would have been done in a fraction of the time had I been using one of those.
The kids were actually a great asset and really got into the swing of things shouting ‘timber’ as the branches came tumbling down. The reason it just had to go was that it was just planted right in the middle of the ‘view’ and ultimately where we would want to walk down.
As you can hopefully see from the pictures above, it really helps to open the space up a bit, and when it is finally removed we think it will have been worth it.
One great plus is that it will not be wasted. The smaller branches and leaves will be shredded for mulch and compost, the slightly bigger ones chopped for kindling, and the larger ones including the trunk chopped into logs for firewood. Perfect!
I’ll update the blog when it is finally removed totally. Mr P has offered to pull it out with his JCB and some chains, I wonder if he will let me have a go!?
