Rural Broadband – Panic Stations!!

Now I am panicking!! I just found out for the first time what the current phone number is for Waterloo Farm, and casually thought I would enter the number into the BT Broadband availability checker. I was confident it would be fine, but my confidence has been misplaced!

Having tried other local phone numbers on the same checker, I knew they could get Broadband, so naturally assumed Waterloo Farm would be fine – aarrrgghhh!! I get a horrible error saying that despite a previous engineer’s visit it was not possible to supply Broadband. I knew that being quite rural and a long way from the exchange it was going to be hard to get a full 8Mb service, but not getting anything is a BIG problem. No Broadband equals no house purchase, that’s the bottom-line. Since I work from home in an ‘Online’ role, ADSL is a must-have not a nice-to-have.

On finding this out I immediatly called Mr P, who is currently in France. He confirmed what I suspected, that he has never had an engineer out, and as he has lived in the house most of his life, it can’t be that an engineer came before he moved in!

I tried calling several people in BT for some clarification, but did not get anywhere, especially as I am not the account holder.

Sigh … maybe this is another non-starter of a house and this is another disappointment waiting to happen … I must say, I feel pretty fed up to say the least. (Tam told me I looked pretty grey and as if I was going to throw up, so I guess ‘fed up’ could be a bit of an understatement …)
