Since we have owned The Farm, one side of our land has a disused drainage ditch (a new one now runs behind it) and the ditch is not only deep in place, but has piles of rubbish hidden in forests of weeds and stinging nettles. Ironically, it is in this area that we are planning to have our vegetable patch, fruit cage and chicken run!
So, we need to get this sorted before we can start any of these ventures. To this end, Trevor our builder and neighbour has been doing some work on his own garden, which has involved him wanting to get rid of a load of top soil and turf. Result! So, we have been taking Trevor’s waste and using it to fill in our ditch. A win-win situation.
The best part is that I have been able to play with some really cool ‘man toys’! In this case a 4 wheel drive articulated mini dumper. I had a real hoot buzzing around the land in this and duping the contents in the old ditch.
The kids just loved the rides, particularly our youngest who just spent all day grinning from ear-to-ear! (He was not the only one – just call me a big kid!)
