We are very excited that at last we have the start of our vegetable patch! If you regularly follow out blog you will know that the Wildlife likes to strike back, so we have had to create Fort Knox to stop the fluffy bunnies (!) thinking we have created them a handy larder-cum-restaurant.
The enclosure stands about 3 feet high, with stainless steel chicken wire buried and pinned under the turf for 6 inches, to stop any burrowing. There is also a 2.5mm high tensile wire running around the top to stop any agile foxes/Munt Jack deer from jumping in. Apparently they don’t see the wire but bounce harmlessly off it. There is also a picket gate at each end for easy access in and out. The total size is about 15m x 7.5m with room to expand in the future is necessary, and the plan is to have 8 large raised beds (3.6m x 1.2m) and 2 smaller beds (2m x 0.5m) in an attractive layout with a tree and bench in the middle! Hopefully the fence will keep all our veg safe!
First we need to sort out the grass inside and prepare the soil. But this is a real step in the right direction, and all of the hard work levelling the old ditch to prepare the way for the bed has finally paid off.

the best garden vegetables are tomatoes and potatoes, they look great and you can eat them too.”:.
